TWO runners from Lifton pushed themselves to the limit recently to raise money for a local cause by running the London Marathon.
Each year, runners take to the capital to show the world what they’re made of as they tackle 26.2 miles, weaving through the streets of London while raising money for a plethora of charities and local causes.
This year, among the 55,000 runners were two Lifton residents hoping to tackle every mile to raise money for a cause at the heart of the community.
Emma James and Vin Marshall put on their running shoes and took the the track, raising money for Lifton Community Centre’s solar panel project.
However, this wasn’t their first foray into the world of marathon running, with this marking Vin’s seventh marathon.
Lifton Community Centre provides facilities for many local groups and individuals, bringing people together from the village and surrounding area.
The aim being that solar panels will help to reduce the electricity bills and in return will help to keep hire charges at a reasonable rate, so everyone can continue to enjoy the space.
So far, the pair have raised £1,850, both hopeful that there is more yet to come.
Commenting on the support they have received, Vin said: “I wish to thank all those that have supported us, including Golda who organised a very successful bingo evening for Emma, at Launceston Football Club and also to ST Lanes, Tinhay for allowing us to put a sponsor form in their shop.”
Battling through the hot weather conditions, Emma managed to complete the marathon in 5.16.07, with Vin not far behind, crossing the line in 5.41.07.
