Holsworthy's GSD 2000 charity shop, which raises money to rescue and re-home German Shepherd dogs, urgently needs new volunteers or it may have to close for part of the week.
Help is needed to sort and display donated goods, and to serve customers. Even a low commitment, such as a couple of hours per week, would be greatly appreciated by the charity and could enable the shop to stay open longer.
GSD 2000 was co-founded ten years ago by late Holsworthy resident Kathy Moyse and the charity has had a shop in the town since October 2000. Late last year, it moved to larger premises on the Square to accommodate the quantity of donations.
Janet Watson, the shop's manageress, explained: "We have a great team of volunteers, but recently a couple have had to move on to other things. Anybody who comes to help us will receive a warm welcome. It doesn't matter if you haven't worked in a shop before as we will provide training.
"The shop is very popular with locals and it would be such a shame if it couldn't stay open all week."
Potential volunteers can contact Janet on 01409 254 279 for an informal chat.
GSD 2000 was formed to relieve the suffering and distress of unwanted, abandoned and badly treated German Shepherd dogs through rescue and re-homing, so far it has successfully re-homed more than 700 dogs. All rescue dogs are neutered, and behavioural and medical assessments are carried out before they are re-homed in carefully selected environments with suitable keepers.
