DESPITE the grey sky, Launceston Show was full of colour this year - with a few noticeable changes.

Each year show lovers, farmers, agricultural enthusiasts and families descend on the historic Cornish capital for a day of fun at Lanson Show.

The cattle had been prepped, the sheep brushed and the horses tacked up to ensure the livestock rings were brimming with competition. There was good news for some Post regulars, as Amy Osborne of Jacobstow clinched a champion rosette with her dairy shorthorn Tobarn Blizzard Samantha, while the latest generation showed the experienced showers how it is done when 15 year old Sophie Neale of Launceston became Champion Young Handler.

Alongside the livestock showing, this year’s event also featured a specialised area for children, the “must visit” Floral Art tent blooming with colour and featuring a Chelsea Flower Show winner, brilliant local live music and of course a Main Stage packed with events.

Despite there being no Women’s Institute tent this year, due to the dwindling number of local groups, there was still plenty of fellowship with the usual refreshments being supported.

In its place, and new this year was the ‘Food, Fun and Farming’ tent. The new tent focused on food production, availability and affordability, and contained learning opportunities which focused on things like flowers, bees, cakes, dairy, beef, sheep and potatoes as a vegetable.

Following a great, but damp, day a spokesperson said: “From the beginning to the end…what an amazing day it was.

“Heartfelt thanks and gratitude to every single person who helped at Launceston Show.

“Stewards, judges, sponsors, traders, volunteers, committee members, demonstrators and all our lovely visitors. Albeit with some rain, we were blessed with mainly sunshine.

“Thank you all so much for helping make it a success!”
