THINGS are set to get mystical in Launceston thanks to the launch of a brand new festival.

From the infamous Beast of Bodmin to the Owlman and Morgawr, Launceston is set to be transformed into a paradise of Cornish folklore as part of the inaugural Borderlands Festival.

The festival of folklore, music, arts and culture is coming to Cornwall’s ancient capital for one day only. On September 20, the event will bring together a celebration of the rich traditions and unique stories from across the region.

From 10am to 11pm, residents and visitors can expect live music, markets, talks, street theatre, storytelling, craft beers, and exhibitions, plus the unmissable ‘Cornish Myths and Legends Parade’.

Highlights include Celtic folk-punk favourites Black Friday, traditional dance energy from Bagas Fellyon, dark tales with The Piskie Trap, the Skiffle Project Community Orchestra, and chilling ghost stories from Lawrence P. McNeela. On top of this, writers including Syd Moore, Hannah Marsh, Laura May, and Sam K. Horton will also be appearing.

Visitors will be transported to the world of myth and legend, diving head-first into some of Cornwall’s chilling tales during the local ghost walk, and exploring some of the scary stories while exploring the dark side of Cornish smuggling.

A spokesperson from the festival explained: “We are proud to bring together a celebration that honours the rich traditions and unique stories of Cornwall and Devon.

“The festival has been a true labour of love, and the committee would like to offer heartfelt thanks to all the performers, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who helped turn this vision into reality.

“Most of all, thank you for joining us, we hope this marks the beginning of something truly special.”
