462 Fat Lambs, 115 Draft Ewes and Rams

A similar entry and a strong trade for all the good meat lambs with the 45-46kg lambs selling to a premium.

Top being 316ppkg for a pen of 46.2kgs for C Littlejohns of Burny Cottage, Hartland followed by 2 vendors at 315ppkg from Mark Dymond of Hollick, Yarnscombe 46kgs, £145 and Mike Down of Whitsley Barton with 4 pens of 43kgs at £135.50. Top on the day was £156 from Messrs Bolt & Moore of Torrington.

Draft Ewes

Smaller entry with nearly all lean and lightweight ewes on offer and a continued strong trade met for all.

Suffolk x ewes topped at £152 from OVG Dennis & Son of South Tawton. Texel ewes to £151 from R May of Henford, Ashwater. Mules to £148 and grazing ewes between £90 & £115.

186 Store Lambs

A mixed entry of quality with the framed lambs very much sought after.

A pen of shorn Suffolk x lambs from Richard Jenkin of Sutton Town topped the morning at £121, wool lambs to £120 from Kevin Heard of Bradworthy

440 Calves and Weaned Calves

Plenty of rearing calves forward, quality would be lacking, and trade down on the week.

Weaned Calves

A good offering of weaned calves with the best weaned British Blue steers up to £800 (6m) for ST Beer, Monkleigh, who sold another bunch at £750. Aberdeen Angus heifers sold to £570 (6m) for a bunch in from JE & SJ Dennis, Hartland.

Milk Calves

A big show where a lot of smaller calves were on offer top of the day was £795 for a well grown British Blue bull in from RWH Dilling, Highampton who sold others to £580 more to £580 for Weavian Farms, Bideford who had other good sorts to £560 and £545, £530 for JL Bartlett, Swimbridge, £520 for Westcott Farm Partnership, Sutcombe.

A pair of cracking Limousin bulls sold well to £640 in from NC & RM Skinner, Halwill who had another to £515. Hereford bulls to £460 for the Timms Family, Thorndon Cross, more to £345 for Dallyns Dairy Limited, Barnstaple and £345 also for RK & CL Sainsbury Limited, Launceston.

Aberdeen Angus bulls remained a good trade throughout and reached £445 for Diepenbrock Farms, Seaton. Others to £405 for RK & CL Sainsbury Limited, £402 for JG & SJ Tancock, Callington and £400 for RJ Weeks, Hartland. Beef Shorthorn bulls to £340 and £290 for TJ Dawkin, Hartland.

Heifers sold to a top of £430 for a cracking pair of Limousin heifers in from NC & RM Skinner again, followed by British Blue heifers to £405 for MB Davey, Hartland, £392, £365 and £355 all in from Westcott Farm Partnership, Sutcombe.

Aberdeen Angus heifers to £312 for RJ Weeks, others to £270 for LD Heywood, Hartland. A sweet Charolais heifer to £360 for RG & LA & SR Wearing, Tavistock. Hereford heifers reached £270 for JG & SJ Tancock, others to £260 for a pair in from Dallyns Dairy Limited.

Dairy Sired Bulls

Friesian bulls reached £220 for ST Beer, others to £150 RJ Weeks and a trio to £114 for JG & S Endacott, Halwill.

220 Store Cattle

Numbers tighter although the trade was much stronger than previous weeks and more flesh about.

Plenty of steers back over £2000 topping at £2260 for a 19mth British Blue from Messrs A & L Furse of Beaworthy. A large framed Fleckvieh steer from Mr MW Bromell of Bradworthy to £2200 who sold 2 others at £2100 and £1980.

Several British Blues with condition this week saw the best to £2150 from Mr RG Allin of Winkleigh, other 25mth British Blues from Messrs A & D Quance of Newton St Petrock to £2130 (2).

Younger British Blues from Messrs CT Banbury & Son to £2010 (18mth) and a good run of Continental steers from Messrs HF Chubb & Son of Tetcott £1980 and wintering British Blues from Mr SW Graham of Marhamchurch £1970 (2) with a lot of the 16-18mth Continentals between £1700-£1850.

A strong native trade with Aberdeen Angis steers £1960 for 2 from Mr SW Graham.

A cracking run of young 14mth Aberdeen Angus from Mr R K H Vooght of Petrockstow saw steers £1880 & £1850 and Hereford steers to £1890 again from SW Graham.

Top of the heifers was £2100 for a 27mth British Blue from Mr CW Eddy of Truro, other fleshed and non FA British Blues from Messrs HF Chubb & Son of Tetcott to £1990 (4), other British Blue heifers from CT Banbury & Son to £1960 who topped the Limousins at £1900 with plenty of heifers at £1800+.

Younger Store Cattle

Top was £1430 for 2 British Blue steers 13mth from Mr M Mawtus of Pyworthy, British Blue heifers from Mr J Bryant to £1350, 14mth Limousin steers from Messrs A & L Furse of Ashwater to £1200 (2) also realised by Messrs JT & RL Pomeroy of Bradworthy for a 12mth Limousin who sold Hereford steers well at £1190, other Hereford steers from Messrs A & L Furse to £1130 whose group of 5 13mth Hereford heifers sold well at £1000. A nice run of 5-7mth single suckled Simmental cattle from Mr SJ Stevens.

Young Bulls

Keen demand again topped at £1540 for a 14mth British Blue from Mr J Clark of Ashwater who sold others at £1300 (3), 10mth Hereford buls from Mr MF Hatherley of Liskeard to £1300, British Shorthorn bulls 10mth to £1130.

Grazing Cows

Top was £980 for 2 Herefords from Mr S Pocock of Pancrasweek, others to £920 (3).

OTM Weighing Cows

A nice run of non FA Hereford cows from Messrs S Pocock of Pancrasweek saw a top of 252p, 794kgs realising £2000 with others from the same farm at £1904 and £1755.

51 Dairy Cattle

Today’s dairy market saw a slightly stronger trade again with fresh calvers attracting great demand both around the ring and on Marteye.

Top call of the day was £3200 for a 3rd calving cow ‘Littleweir Esquire Bluebell VG87’ yielding 39Kgs on behalf of Messrs J & SW Murch of Umberleigh.

Other fresh calved cows sold to £3000, firstly for a 2nd calver on behalf of Mr RM Gillard of Boyton and secondly for a 4th calving cow yielding 55Kgs on behalf of Messrs EV & BK Benney & Son of Helston.

Regular vendors Messrs H Burrows & Sons of Woolacombe sold a 3rd calving cow ‘Glendene Bertha 139’ at £2850 with Messrs DP & CE Martin of Bude continuing their dispersal topping at £2800 for a 2nd calving Dairy Shorthorn X Cow yielding 26Kgs.

Heifers saw a top of £2850 for ‘Glendene Bertha 173’ on behalf of the Burrows Family and also for a fresh heifer yielding 30Kgs on behalf of Messrs WF Parsons & Son, Pyworthy.

The Murch Family sold a fresh heifer ‘Littlewier Solarpower Flossie’ at £2750 with Martin & Di Webber of Drewsteignton realising £2600 for their fresh calver heifer ‘Oxenacres Altadetermine Sara’.

Messrs EV & BK Benney sold a consignment of mid-lactation cows and heifers which also saw a solid trade with May-July calving cows selling to £2550, £2250 & £2000.

In calf heifers topped at £2150 on two occasions for heifers due December and January on behalf of Messrs IR & JA Johns of Bude. The same vendors also sold a heifer due late November to £2000.
