449 Fat Lambs, 142 Draft Ewes and Rams

Similar entry and a lot faster trade, overall average of £313.6.

The fleshed lambs very much selling to a premium, top per kilo being 330ppk for 4 pens of 40kgs at £132 from Mike Down of Whitsley Barton, Roborough.

Graham & Lindy Cowling of Kings Hill of Bude realised 327ppk for 44kgs to £144 and RW Squire of Slade Farm, North Tawton saw his 44.2kg achieve 325ppk at £143.50, numerous pens around 320ppk.

Top per head on the day was £153 again sold by Graham & Lindy Cowling of Bude.

Draft Ewes

A flying trade for weight and breeds with an overall average of £137.25, highest so far this week in the South West.

Top per head was £220 for a Texel from Daniel Heard of Summerwell from Holsworthy and Charolais x ewes to £184 from Brad Tonkin of Ugworthy Barton, Chilsworthy.

Mules to £170 from John Shipton of Week St Mary. 5 vendors realised £165 for their ewes and grazing ewes at £125 to £138.

Store Lambs

Small entry and a very fast trade, top being £126 from O Smith of Burkitt, Lewdown.

357 Calves and Weaned Calves

Fewer calves on offer as we head into the winter months, a huge number of very young calves in the mix having said that all 357 calves average a strong £337/head.

Weaned Calves

Another strong entry of weaned calves this week topping at £800 (six m) for two beef bred Limousin steers for J & C Bray, Kentisbury followed by British Blue heifers selling well to £760 (x seven) for Baulch Partnership, North Tawton.

Milk Calves

Many strong prices achieved this week to a top shout of £675 for a top notch British Blue bull from GC & LA Jones, Crediton, other good sorts £640 for GRM Hill, Lamerton, £620 twice for AJ & JA Heard, Hartland and ST & EE Nickels, Newton Tracey and £605 for TJ & BE Cowley & Son, Ashwater.

Best Limousin bulls to £640 for PH Collins Partnership, Holsworthy who sold more to £600, £590 and £560.

Sweet, well put together Simmental bulls to £620 for FK M & SK Kendall, Lanivet. Charolais bulls to £600 for GRM Hill again and £460 for RM CE & IR Harris, Winkleigh.

Hereford bulls sold to a wonderful trade and reached £450 for GC & LA Jones again, £428 for GD & KE Kitto, Lamellion and £415 for ARP Farming, Pancrasweek.

Like the Hereford bulls the Aberdeen Angus bulls sold extremely well and reached to £442 (x2) for SG & MR Ley, Sutcombe, £420 for RK & CL Sainsbury Ltd, Launceston and £410 for 2 vendors AJ & PR Nancekivell, Kilkhampton and TP & JH Isaac, Holsworthy.

Heifers topped at £600 for a British Blue from FK M & SK Kendall again, £565 for GC LA Jones again, more to £480, £460 and £440 again for FK M & SK Kendall.

Limousin heifers to £540 for MT Braunton, Helland, £490 for NC & RM Skinner, Halwill and £440 for AS Brenton & Sons, St Keyne.

Charolais heifers to £410 for GRM Hill again and £400 for RG & LA & SR Wearing again. Aberdeen Angus heifers to £400, £392, £390 for AJ & PE Nancekivell again.

Hereford heifers to £350 for CRM Hancock, Liskeard, £315 and £305 for GC & LA Jones again.

Dairy Sired Bulls

Older Friesian bulls to £325 for SR Gilbert & Son, Beaworthy, £320 for DR & LJ Johns, Washaway.

With younger Friesian bulls to £116 for CW Eddy, Truro, £112 for FC Buse & Co, St Minver. All average £142.

190 Store Cattle

Another very strong trade this week saw fierce bidding for the number on offer.

Best of the forward fleshed steers topped at £2390 for three well farmed Aberdeen angus from Messrs JRJ & L Quance of Shebbear whose further bunches of Aberdeen angus made £2210 (four) & £2130 (three) and Herefords from the same farm at £2060 (two).

A thick single suckled Aberdeen angus from Mr KW Thorne of Hartland to £2000.

Younger wintering steers sold well, two 17mth Limousins from JR & MJ Ovens of Halwill to £1860 who also sold a 15mth Charolais to £1780 with plenty of other 16-17mth steers to £1660-£1770.

Best of the meat heifers to £2110 for a large boned 28mth Charolais from Taylors Farm of Exford.

A run of Aberdeen angus heifers 22mths from Messrs JRJ & L Quance to £2060 others to £2030 and single suckled Aberdeen angus heifers from Mr KW Thorne at £1980 with plenty at £1930+.

Other meat heifers saw a Friesian from Messrs R Ford & Son of Barnstaple to £1870, plenty of 14-16mth store heifers to £1500 & £1680 for three heifers from Mr MR Satchell of Week St Mary.

Younger Stores

Another flyer this week, many more required. A nice run of quality Limousins from Mr PRT Balsdon of Beaworthy saw five 12mth steers to £1600 others to £1580.

British blue steers from the same stable to £1570 & Limousin heifers to £1350, other British blue steers from Mr ME Stevens & partners at £1460 (5).

11mth British blue steers from Heywood Farm Partners Ltd at £1350 (three) 8-9mth British blue steers from Mr R Ford & Sons of Barnstaple to £1330 (three) heifers to £900.

Grazing Cows

A 5-year-old Aberdeen angus cow in good condition from Messrs Winkleigh to £1580.

Finished Cattle

320ppk for a Simmental heifer from Mr WM Bridgman of Jacobstow realising £1817.
