412 New Season Lambs, 210 Draft Ewes and Rams
New Season Lambs - Trade slipped below the £4 barrier but for the time of year the trade is well up on that of the same time last year.
Top per kilo being 400ppk for a pen of 45.2kgs at £181. WM carter & Son of Derworthy saw their 40kgs realise 398ppk at £159. Top per head was £185 from 3 vendors.
Draft Ewes - More on offer and still a strong trade with an overall average of £142.
Top on the day was £168 for Ryan Thomas of Kilkhampton for his Texel x. Charollais x to £162 from S Walker of Bridgerule and Suffolk x to £161 from 3 vendors.
Rams - Topping out at £199 for a Texel from Ryan Thomas of Kilkhampton, other Texel rams to £187 from Richard Turner of Marhamchurch.
343 Calves
Milk Calves - A great show of calves and another magnificent trade.
Top of the rearing calf section was a strong £852 given for a classy, well put together Blue bull presented by Bradley Farming LTD, up from Camelford with more for the same stable attaining £840, £825, £810 and £802.
Further strong Blue bulls away to £830 for a grand bull in from Michael Hopper, Whitstone and £790 for the best in from Kingsley and Luke Care making the long but worthwhile journey up from St Ewe, all Blue bulls in the market average £681.
Russell Risdon back up from Camelford again this week to sell his best Angus bulls at an impressive £800, £795 and £750, young Angus just a serious price at £662 for LJ & LE Luxton, Milton Damerel and £652 Laneslade Dairy LTD coming down from Brayford, all Angus bulls average a record breaking £732.
Tony Dallyn came down from the top of Barnstaple to sell his well-bred Hereford bull to £680, young fresh Hereford bulls drew an impressive £638 for Cory Farm LTD, Bude and £625 for WA Raffe & Sons, Bradworthy.
Rachel Poole, Milton Damerel sold a decent Devon bull away to £522. Best of the heifers on milk soared up to £815 for Henscott Barton LTD, £740 Kingsley & Luke Care, £738 Bradley Farming LTD and £698 and £672 both in from PF Cleave, Bude with 59 Blue heifers averaging well at £609.
Best Limousin heifer reached an impressive £815 for a pretty trio sold by Henscott Barton LTD with Russell Risdon back in selling his well grown Angus heifers to £700 & £695 with younger types to £580 Kinglsey and Luke Care.
A beautiful pair of Hereford heifers saw great demand and hit £775 for Henscott Barton LTD, others to £630 for Tony Dallyn followed by a good show of Charolais heifers which achieved £710 for LJ Goaman, Hartland and £640 for the Wearing family up from Tavistock.
Weaned Calves - A pleasing run of 144 weaned calves which again drew another massive crowd of buyers, even in this hay making weather.
Nathan & Joel Pryor of Pryor Dairying LTD travelled up from Redruth again with their usual quality run of weaned calves which were all around 3 months old again.
The best Blue steers hit £900 & £860, Angus steers to £860 and £855, Hereford steers at £840. Heifers another great trade and made £865 for Blues and £805 for the Angus heifers.
70 Store Cattle
Several cancellations due to the weather however those on offer sold well, top being £1920 for a 26mth Hereford steer from Mr A Vallance of Okehampton who sold others to £1880.
A nice run of 18mth Charolais & Salers from Mr GT Daniel of Launceston sold well with Charolais at £1820(2) others at £1770 and Salers to £1780.
Heifers to £1860 for 3 warm British Blues from Mr SW Graham of Bude others to £1780(3) and Hereford heifers from Mr A Vallance at £1630 and Holstein heifers from Messrs WA Raffe & Sons to £1800 (33mth) & £1670 (30mth).
Younger Stores - 9 10mth British Blue steers from Messrs R Wood & Partners sold well at £1400, other 11mth British Blue steers from Messrs CR & CF Timms & Sons of Okehampton to £1340(3) and heifers to £1190.
A run of Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Ashwater Farms of Winkleigh saw steers to £1380, others to £1320 and 7 Aberdeen Angus heifers from the same farm to £1200.
