302 New Season Lambs,146 Draft Ewes and Rams
New Season Lambs - Smaller entry and again a very strong trade for all the good meat lambs which sold to a premium.
Top per kilo on the day was 438ppk for 2 pens of 43.2kgs at £189 from Mike & Chutney Watkins of Torrington and Chris Ham & Daughters of Frithelstock saw their 42.2kgs make 435ppk £183.50.
Sally and Chris Prouse of Clawton realised 433ppk for their Texel x 43kgs at £186. Top per head on the day was £191 from S Donaldson of Hatherleigh with 3 other vendors realising £190.50.
Draft Ewes - More on offer and a very fast trade and a lot more could have been sold.
Top on the day was £197 for a Texel x from Tim Dennis of Thorne, Stratton and Suffolk x ewes to £191 from Rod Evely of Petersmarland. Mules to £166 from Richard Turner of Penleaze, Marhamchurch.
Store Lambs - First consignment of store lambs for the season met with a lot of interest and more could have been sold, top on the day was £131 from K Genduso of Boasley Barton.
Couples - Small entry but still a strong trade for the time of year, a consignment of purebred FM Dorset doubles from Mr P Evans of Liskeard sold to £380 and £365.
318 Calves
MILK CALVES - Another busy week in the calf pens saw another ballistic trade with all calves forward averaging £574 per head.
Kingsley & Luke Care presented a fantastic consignment of 40 odd calves with their best Blue bulls reaching an impressive £920, £910, £870 and £805.
Further strong Blue bulls looking well sold to £820 RWH Dilling, Highampton, £810 O Petherick & Son, Kilkhampton, £800 TJ & BE Cowley & Son, Ashwater and £765 for Clifton Ford & Charlotte Watts of Ashwater with 49 Blue bulls averaging a record £723 per head.
Strong Angus from the Care family attained £860 and £780 followed closely by Russel Risdon up from Camelford making £810 and £700 of his strong Angus.
Sam Brenton & Juliette Eastley travelled up from Liskeard with a lorry load of Angus and Herefords with the best of their Angus bulls to £688, £685, £678, £662, £660 and £652 a credit to them both. 64 Angus bulls have averaged a remarkable £582.
Best Limousin bulls drew £788 (x2) Rachel Skinner, Halwill others £635 AJ & PE Nancekivell, Kilkhampton with all Limousin bulls averaging £601.
TJ Nattle & Partners travelled up from Bodmin to sell Stabiliser bulls at £705, Hereford bulls from the same good farm to £718 and £660.
Further strong Hereford bulls away to £640 AJ Bunkham, Saltash, £635 Harvey Bros, Launceston and £625 & £620 for Sam Brenton and Juliette Eastley. Sweet Charolais bulls soared up to £730 from Ian Tapp, Tiverton, £710 LJ Goamans & Son and £680 Brian Scambler.
Some eye watering heifer prices, with best of the Blues to £860, £830 and £780 for those strong types from Kingsley & Luke Care, others £810 and £770 Owen Petherick and £705 for a young sort from PJ Martin, Buckland Filleigh with all 46 heifers averaging a record £680.
Abbey Marshall in from Bridestowe sold a classy Charolais heifer to £830, others £670 Ian Tapp and £660 Brian Scambler. Abbey Marshall back in selling a showy Limousin heifer to a grand £740, others £600 for a pair in from Westcott Farm Partnership.
A big run of Angus heifers reached £780 and £725 for strong sorts in from Russel Risdon, others £700 Kingsley & Luke Care and £630, £625, £610, £608 and £592 (x4) for a super run from Sam Brenton & Juliette Eastley.
Dairy Sired Bulls - 12 Friesian bulls on offer and averaged £230 per head to a top of £375 for a useful pair in from Kingsley & Luke Care. AC & DC Walters & Sons sold Ayrshire bulls to £310 and £285.
290 Store Cattle
Another flyer this week and a packed ring, the stronger stores with flesh saw a serious trade with plenty at £2000+.
Topping the day at £2180 was Mr SW Graham of Bude with his (4) 21mth British Blues, other British Blues from Messrs HR Yelland & Son of Holsworthy to £2150 (3) and 7 21mth grass British Blues from Messrs G Daniel & Son of Holsworthy to £2030.
16-18mth Limousins to £1970 from Messrs PS & KM Warren of Virginstowe and Messrs N & B Trewin of Bideford.
Best of the natives to £2170 for a 21mth steer from HR Yelland & Son of Clawton and 17mth Aberdeen Angus from Messrs N & B Trewin saw 11 at £2000 whose 17mth Hereford steers also sold well at £2000.
Top of the heifers was £2050 for 4 at 21mths from Mr SW Graham, 22mth Charolais from Messrs HR Daniel & Son to £1980 & £1960.
Best of the British Blues to £1960 (3) from Messrs G Daniel & Son with the second bunch to £1860 (3) and 15-17mth grass cattle in short supply with most between £1400-£1700.
Younger Stores - Top this week was £1540 for 6 11-14mth Aberdeen Angus steers from Messrs JW & JAV Prideaux of Bude with 4 heifers to £1420.
A large run of 100 young 9mth grass cattle from Messrs Ford & Watts of Ashwater drew a large crowd with British Blue steers to £1240 (9) and £1200 (10) and British Blue heifers 9mths to £1080(5) & £1050(6).
7&9mth Limousin steers to £1140 and heifers at £1010 and Aberdeen Angus steers to £970 and Aberdeen Angus heifers to £860.
Several young indoor well done British Blues also sold well to £1150 for 6 from Mr T Michell of Truro, other 7-8mth British Blue steers from Mr WP Jenkin of Helston at £1020(4) and 8mth British Blue heifers from the same farm to £950.
188 Dairy Cattle
The dairy sale saw a very buoyant trade for freshly calved cows and early-autumn calving in calf heifers.
Top call of the day was £3450 for ‘Hoops Ikon Judy’ a fresh heifer yielding 33Kgs on behalf of Stuart & Michelle Ley of Sutcombe.
Phillip & Jackie Jenkin of Helston topped at £3350 for ‘Mudegon Harley Mary 87’ a fresh heifer yielding 37Kgs with others to £3000, £2950 and their consignment averaging £3020.
Harold & Ruth McAnlis of Boyton topped at £3250 for a ‘Bartinney’ bred heifer with others to £3200 and £3000 (x2).
Steve Wonnacott of Woolsery sold a super consignment of fresh calved heifers which topped at £3250 with others realising £3200 and £3000. Mervin Hutchings of Launceston sold a fresh heifer at £3000.
Cows topped at £3200 for a 3rd calver ‘Mudgeon Sassafras Annie 83 GP82’ on behalf of Phillip & Jackie Jenkin with a 2nd calver ‘Mudgeon Sassafras Jenny 211’ selling to £3050 and a 3rd calver ‘Mudgeon Prince Faith 87’ realising £3000.
The sale saw the continuation of the dispersal on behalf of PH Collins Partnership, Holsworthy with their pure British Friesian cows and heifers in great demand topping at £2500 for a 2nd calver with others selling to £2400, £2350 and £2200.
In calf heifers saw a tremendous trade with a large ring of buyers and a very active MartEye.
Mambury Farm Partners of East Putford topped at £3300 for ‘Mamford Raiton Lauren’ due August to sexed semen with ‘Mamford Taos Alice 2’ selling to £3200.
Steve Wonnacott of Woolsery sold a consignment of heifers due late July onwards to a storming trade topping at £3200 (x2) with others to £3150, £3050 (x2) and his consignment of 10 averaging £2996.
Messrs EV & BK Benney & Son of Helston topped at £3100 (x2) for heifers due in August to Aberdeen Angus.
The Haste Family of Shebbear sold a consignment of heifers due August/September topping at £3000 with others to £2900, £2800 (x2) & £2700.
Youngstock also saw a solid trade with Crossbred Bulling Heifers topping at £1650 for Trela Farm Ltd of Camelford with other heifers selling to £1600 and £1520.
Holstein Friesian bulling heifers topped at £1600 (x7) on behalf of Becky Mills of Torrington who also sold heifers to £1520 (x6) and her consignment averaging £1563.
Stuart and Michelle Ley sold two pedigree bulling heifers ‘Hoops Ivory 1361’ and ‘Hoops Eq Daffodil’ to £1600.
