Perfect for seeing bluebells in all their glory, this is a short circular walk beginning and ending in the pretty Saxon village of Blisland, with its village green, manor and pub.

The walk starts at the Blisland Inn, winner of the CAMRA National Pub of the Year, then heads through the churchyard of the impressively ornate 15th century church and down a track to cross the Mill Race stream.

The route then goes through a stretch of the Woodland Trust reserve of Lavethan Wood, an ancient Woodland resplendent with bluebells at this time of year and a designated area of outstanding natural beauty.

On the way Levethan Manor House, mentioned in the Domesday Book, can be spotted on the other side of the valley. The walk then emerges on a lane near Cock’s Penrose Farm.

Following the lane to Barlendew Farm and land which was once the estates of Levethan and Barlendew manors, it then crosses fields back into Lavethan Wood and emerges onto country lanes lined with pretty flowers in spring and summer, to return to Blisland via the Holy Well of St Hyacinth and St Pratt which is used as the source of holy water for christenings at the parish church.

Dogs are likely to need help over one of the stiles and at another large dogs will need to avoid the stile and go through a gap in the fence followed by a jump from the bank to clear collapsed barbed wire.

Highlights:

l The pretty village of Blisland, its church and pub.

l Ancient Woodland especially beautiful at bluebell time.

l Colourful hedges and banks in the spring and summer.
