A COMMUNITY group is bidding to save its pub - and turn it into a hub for one and all.

Those behind the initiative say they intend to not only maintain the pub amenity but create a community hub serving Bude, Stratton, Holsworthy and all the local villages in addition to Pyworthy.

Ideas include a loneliness hub, where people experiencing it can enjoy a monthly carvery evening free of charge and meet pub members with the aim of forging bonds of friendship.

Other plans include a winter warm hub and other community services that meet local needs including events for farmers and veterans.

A spokesperson for the group behind the scheme said: “The Molesworth Arms in Pyworthy is up for sale and the opportunity exists to purchase it as a community pub. This means that the pub will be owned by members of the community and provide services that the community would like.

“There are many ways to purchase a community pub and we intend to opt for a Community Interest Company led by a small committee of volunteers with a society of members who all own shares in the pub. In essence the pub gives profits back to the community or uses them to provide additional community services from within the pub itself. If you are a member, it will be your pub, designed by you, run by you, owned by you and any profits will be spent on you.

“The group are looking for volunteers to join its committee, including a chairperson, an operation and business lead, a community engagement lead, a fundraising lead, a treasurer, a secretary, a marketing lead, a building lead, and social media.”
