TOGETHER with Okehampton College, Tavistock College and Queen Elizabeth Academy, Crediton and 12 primary schools in the area, from January 1, 2018, Holsworthy Community College is to become part of the Dartmoor Multi-Academy Trust (MAT), writes Christine Williams.

A ‘MAT’ is a group of schools that work together in a formal arrangement to enhance the teaching and learning opportunities for students and staff. A single board of trustees governs and is responsible for deciding how each school is run, but there will still be a local governing board who will monitor the quality of education in each school.

Speaking at a meeting of the Holsworthy Community Forum Sam Williams, the new head of school at Holsworthy Community College, explained that there was going to be a return to the old ways when the headteacher took responsibility for the educational side of the school and there would be administrative support workers who would be responsible for the management and running of all non-educational areas.

There would be an open day when anyone — including non-parents — could visit the school during lesson times to see for themselves how the children were being served in the school.

Anyone wishing to learn more or book a place on one of the tours should telephone the front office on 01409 253430.
