There is a festive chill in the air and that can only mean one thing — it’s almost time to get those Christmas decorations up!
Starting the festive season in a spectacular way Holsworthy Town Council, with the support of many local organisations and volunteers, are preparing for their ever-popular ‘Big Switch-On’ this December 3 from 4pm until 8pm in the Square.
A town council spokesperson said: “Holsworthy Town Council would like to say a great big thank you to all organisations, volunteers and individuals that are helping us to make this Big Switch-On event!”
So what can people expect to find at this year’s event?
It promises to be bigger and better than ever, with several new additions to the line up.
There will of course be the well-stocked Christmas market where visitors can grab some early Christmas presents for loved ones (or themselves).
The on-stage entertainment will include performances from the town’s band, the youth club and Holsworthy Primary School and Community College students to name a few.
Don’t forget to bring your headphones for the silent disco from 4pm to 5pm.
Throughout the town there will be an opportunity to get involved in the magic, with the popular stilt walkers greeting visitors as well as other walking entertainment including the fun ‘Elf Bubbleologist’.
Children can get their faces painted with festive designs before taking a spin on some of the free rides available.
Those brave enough can impress their friends by having a go on the Bucking bronco Reindeer — how long can you stay on?
After all that excitement why not make a lasting memory and have a photograph in the giant inflatable snowglobe.
However, no Christmas Lights Switch On event would be complete without a visit from Santa — he will be swinging by to meet all the children of Holsworthy in his Grotto, keep those lists handy!
But wait, there’s more…Santas that is! Holsworthy Football Club will be kicking off the fun with the traditional ‘Santa Run’. To enter pick up a form from the Town Council Offices: Holsworthy Town Council, Manor Offices, North Road, Holsworthy, EX22 6DJ.
Quiet hour
This year, the town council has made a special addition to the schedule to support those in the town with hidden disabilities.
All the lights and noise can be a bit overwhelming for some and to combat this the town council will host a ‘quiet hour’ on the night from 4pm to 5pm.
This will be a quieter hour with reduced noise levels to help those with hidden disabilities.
A spokesperson explained: “The aim is to make the Holsworthy Switch-On and Christmas Market more accessible to Members of the Public with hidden disabilities and additional needs.”
