A HOLSWORTHY resident was celebrated on her 100th birthday with a visit from the town’s mayor.
Ruby Campion, 100, has been part of local life since she moved with her now-late husband Dennis to Pyworthy in 1999, later becoming a Holsworthy resident in 2001.
Originally from North London, where she was an employee at the Buildings Permits Office in the city, Ruby became Mrs Campion with a wedding during the war, marrying Dennis in 1944.
Mr and Mrs Campion had two children, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren during their lives together, which saw them move across the South West across the years prior to settling in the area in and around Holsworthy, where they would call home for the rest of their lives.
While Mrs Campion’s communication is limited since having a stroke, her presence is still felt through her facial expressions, with her particular loves being nothing more than cuddling her beloved cat and holding the hand of those who are visiting her.
As part of the celebrations, the town’s mayor was requested to deliver a card from King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Mrs Campion, now a resident of St Anne’s Residential Home in Whitstone, where she moved with Dennis in 2015 prior to his passing in 2017.
The mayor of Holsworthy was joined by Mrs Campion’s grandson and fellow residents of the home for the occasion which featured residents of Whitstone Primary School singing ‘Happy Birthday’.
Cllr Jon Hutchings said after the event: “I was invited to St Anne's Residential Home in Whitstone to celebrate three birthdays. But in particular, one special celebration for Ruby Campion. Her 100th birthday.
“I was asked to deliver her card from King Charles and Queen Camilla. It was a pleasure to chat with the residents and staff, and we were entertained by the local primary school children.”
