A MUCH-loved, annual Bude event has raised thousands for the community.

Each year, many residents in Bude have one date, circled and underlined in their calendar, the date for Bude Carnival. The event, which dates back more than 100 years, welcomes residents and visitors for a day of fun and games in the summer sun!

First held in Bude 1920, events included a grand torch-light procession, a grand masked confetti fete, hourly concerts by four Jolly Sailor Men and an exhibition of war trophies. The event also sought to raise money for a local cause, a tradition which has been maintained ever since.

Though it may look slightly different than it did in 1920, the event lives on and this year on August 16, it hosted a variety of games and entertainment for attendees to enjoy.

During the carnival, donations are collected to raise funds for local causes, and following a successful 2025 event, the carnival’s organisers have revealed that following generous support from the local community, this year’s event raised an impressive £3,000.

Organisers have thanked members of the public and local businesses for their support in achieving such a sum.

A spokesperson for the event said: “Bude Carnival this year were fortunate to raise £3,000 to be given back into the community. The funds were divided up into several local charities and many worthy causes.

“We would like to thank all the local businesses and public who helped us achieve this.”

Local groups and charities which are set to benefit from the funds raised, joined organisers at the Brendan arms to celebrate the donation.

Organisers will be hoping to replicate this success next year, which has already had its date confirmed.

The spokesperson concluded: “We look forward to your support next year on Saturday, August 15, 2026.”
