CITIZEN In Policing Volunteer Phil Dean was honoured recently for his services to Launceston Sector Police.

The Terry Groves Award was created in recognition of the high esteem the community and colleagues held the late PCSO Terry Groves in. Terry sadly passed away in February 2018.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Phil supports Bude officers and staff on an almost daily basis by conducting checks on their vehicles and making sure they are clean and maintained to a safe standard.

“In addition, Phil also manages with others, the CCTV capability for Bude Town Centre providing the town council and police with an overwatch when officers are dealing with potentially violent confrontations or monitoring the progress of vulnerable people during the peak Night Time Economy periods.

“If that wasn’t enough, Phil also plays a leading role in managing the very successful Launceston Cadet group. Phil embodies the ethics and values Terry displayed, and whilst there were several candidates, Phil was the clear winner and should be proud of what he achieves, and all of this whilst managing a disability.”

The spokesperson added: “Devon and Cornwall Police would like to thank Phil for his devotion to volunteering and hope he can continue to be a role model for others inside the organisation and outside.”
