A POPULAR Launceston pub is set to be closed for a number of days after a fire broke out in a kitchen attached to the premises.
Fire crews were mobilised on Sunday morning, February 9, at around 1.24am after reports of a fire in a kitchen above the public house on Race Hill.
Two appliances from Launceston were immediately mobilised, along with a wholetime officer, to the Newmarket Inn.
Upon arrival, crews requested additional resources, making pumps four. A further two appliances from Callington and Bodmin, along with a second officer, were subsequently mobilised.
Fire crews report a fire within a two-storey building measuring approximately 10 metres by five metres. Crews used two hose reel jets and one main jet to extinguish the blaze.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service stated that the cause was deemed to be accidental and spread.
Following the incident, the owners of the Newmarket Inn released a statement, notifying the public that the venue would remain closed for a few days.
A spokesperson for the pub said: “As word is getting around about the fire we have had in the flat above the pub, we will be closed for a few days whilst the fire service do there reports etcetera.
“I would like to thank Launceston community fire station and the others that attend early hours this morning, they got it under control very quickly and was very supportive, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
