POLICE have launched an appeal after a young girl was sexually assaulted in Launceston.

Devon and Cornwall Police are seeking witnesses and footage after reports that a 17-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by an unknown male in an alleyway by Launceston College.

Police were called at around 9.20pm on Sunday, January 25.

The victim managed to escape when the assault was disturbed by a dog walker.

Following the incident, patrol units and the force helicopter were deployed.

A spokesperson from the force explained: “Following immediate enquiries, a man in his 30s was located a short time later and arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. He remains in police custody at this time.
