POLICE have confirmed that a man has been charged in connection to an alleged sexual assault in Launceston.
Officers were called at around 9.20pm on Sunday, January 25, following a report a 17-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by an unknown male in an alleyway by Launceston College.
The victim managed to escape when the assault was disturbed by a dog walker.
Yordan Stanchev, 26, a Bulgarian national, of no fixed abode, Launceston, has now been charged with sexual assault on a female.
He has been remanded in custody to appear at Truro Magistrates’ Court today, Tuesday 27 January.
Following the incident, patrol units and the force helicopter were deployed.
There has been an increased police presence in the area since the report.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Officers would like to thank the public for their patience and assistance during the investigation.”
