SWPL PREMIER WEST

Launceston 3 Truro City Reserves 2

THE rain finally cleared to allow the Clarets to stage their first SWPL game since January when Truro Reserves visited Pennygillam on Tuesday evening.

Conscious of a hectic fixture list, manager Neil Price made changes to the side that had won so impressively at Penzance three days earlier.

Launceston debutants Ryan Downing and Ollie Northam came into the starting line-up, with Price planning to utilise his full five-man bench during the game.

Launceston began by stroking the ball about in confident fashion, befitting a side that had won nine of their last ten games.

After just four minutes, Andy Watkins put the Clarets in front and although Eagan Fabby went close for the visitors, it was no surprise when Jude Jago doubled the lead after 22 minutes.

The lively Lewis Young went close for the Clarets but the score remained 2-0 at the break, with teenage left-backNortham impressing.

Launceston looked to have settled the game when they scored a superb third goal after 55 minutes. Young made ground down the right before putting over a fine cross that Watkins met with a textbook header.

Price, as planned, introduced all five substitutes for the final half-hour, with Launceston unsurprisingly losing a measure of control as a result.

A spirited Truro side took advantage, with Fin Harrison scoring twice in the dying minutes, one from the penalty spot and the other a long-range lob, but the Clarets held on to record a sixth straight victory.
