THE 2025 Bude Pirate Run was held on Sunday, September 21.
The race is part of the Cornwall Multi-Terrain Race Series and attracted nearly 200 runners with the event eventually being won by Bideford AAC’S Mark Jenkin in a time of 51 minutes and 32 seconds, not far off his own course record. The fastest lady was Chloe Clarke from Cornwall AC in 1:02:55.
A club spokesperson said: “The race was well-attended and despite the weather forecast, we were fortunate that no rain fell although there were plenty of puddles on the course to ensure the runners got well and truly muddy.
“We had quite a few first timers brave the hills this year too and they had a lot of positive feedback after the event. Mainly directed at the friendly marshals, well-organised event and tasty pasties – many thanks to Pengenna Pasties for those!”

Run organiser Colleen Finn added: “Also thanks to our sponsor Crooklets Café.
“Nick from the café helped to hand out trophies and awards after the event where we had a new trophy to hand out to the marshal who created the best sign. This went to Jacqui Wilce, a long-time helper at the Bude Pirate Run who went above and beyond with her sign.
“This newest award we have dedicated to our much-missed National Trust Ranger friend Jeff Cherrington, who sadly passed away last December.
“Jeff was the original creator and organiser of the Mouth to Mouth challenge run which started and finished at Sandymouth. Jeff handed the race over to the Bude RATs (evolving to become the Bude Pirate Run) many years ago but maintained an active role in assisting with the organisation and marshalling.
“Jeff had a wonderful sense of humour and with this in mind we will have a funniest sign competition in his memory for our race marshals from now on. Our best dressed marshal prize went to Stuart Colwill.
“Big thanks must go to the Scouts who helped at the finish line again, we are very grateful for their help and of course to our many wonderful Bude RATs who helped across the entire weekend with setting up and marshalling.
“Sophie Edwards from SE Sports Therapy was on hand to offer pre and post-race massages for a donation to the Bude Surf Life Saving Club, and a huge thank you to the Bude Surf Life Saving Club for providing a venue pre and post-race.
“In summary, the 2025 Bude Pirate Run was a great success with many happy runners from across the South West and as far afield as Sweden, and we look forward to doing it once again in 2026!”
