SHEBBEAR College’s first team finished their impressive season with a convincing 41-20 win over West Buckland School recently.

Captain and man of the match, James Hibben, led his team from the outset with some impressive runs and tactical play at the set-piece.

West Buckland started well and scored two tries in the first ten minutes, but Shebbear’s class shone through as they applied pressure in all areas of the field.

The highlight came just before half-time when fly-half, Will Cowan-Dickie, orchestrated a wide attack from a lineout on the half way line, the ball was then passed through seven sets of hands for Cowan-Dickie to regain possession and score under the posts.

Charlie Short and Siaosi Taufa were impressive with the ball in hand, and Will Cox and Fynn Walker, playing in their last game for Shebbear, worked tirelessly.

It was an emotional end to the season and for the upper sixths who will be leaving the side, a well deserved finish to an impressive career of schoolboy rugby.

Head coach, Jamie Sanders, said: “All the upper sixth leavers are in a strong position to continue to enjoy a high level of club and representative rugby should they wish too. I would personally like to thank James Hibben, Patrick Marks, Will Cox, Harry Dymond and Matt Hill for their outstanding commitment to Shebbear’s rugby.”
