BUDE head coach Sam Parker feels his side have a ‘point to prove’ when they welcome Falmouth tomorrow in Counties Two Cornwall (3pm).
The Seasiders had seen off St Just and Wadebridge Camels Seconds in their first two games, but were brought back down to earth by Liskeard-Looe at Lux Park last Saturday, going down 14-10 despite early tries from Ollie Rowland and Fred Saxton.
It meant Bude dropped to third in the table behind leaders Camborne and this weekend’s opponents who saw off previously unbeaten Newquay Hornets.
Parker admitted last Saturday was a setback, but praised the Lions for their victory.
He said: “We were understandably upset with last week’s result, we wanted to make a statement that we could perform away as well as at home, sadly we did not do that.
“We struggled against a very dominant scrum and could not find an answer on the field and Liskeard used this to their advantage.
“There are certain things that you cannot control in a game and it is up to us to find a way around them, but unfortunately last week it seemed we could do no right.
“On a positive note our line-out was functioning really well and provided us with a good platform, and both teams scored two tries, but due to scoring out wide the wind worked against us which was the final difference.
“Hats off to Liskeard for a good performance and we look forward to seeing them at home.”
Bude have a slightly different look to them this season, particularly in the pack which has lost hundreds of appearances.
Parker continued: “As a team rebuilding we have a lot of work to do and a lot of areas to improve upon.
“It is not going to happen overnight, but we are committed to improving and learning from our mistakes, starting with Falmouth tomorrow.
“It should be a really good game with us being third and them second, and with us feeling we should have won at Liskeard, we have a point to prove.
“The weather is looking fair so we are looking to play some good running rugby, we know where we are effective and need to focus on those areas.
“Also our defence is still proving formidable and we want to maintain that dominance.”
Bude make just one change to the starting line-up as Ben Tharme drops down to the bench which also includes for the first time this season, front-five forward Fraser Martyn.
Parker concluded: “We have Olly Denford back this week with Edy Cooke moving to outside-centre. We hope that this will provide some new attacking options and a bit more dynamism.”
