THE seniors opened their new season with an away match at Newquay on Monday, February 15.

Playing in sunshine was a bit of a novelty but a cold breeze across Fistral resulted in all wearing everything they could lay their hands on.

The match turned out to be a very close contest and finished in a most honourable 4-points-all draw.

The contest for nearest the pin at the par three, 16th hole was won for Bowood by Graham Garrod and by Eric Thomas for Newquay but the par three, 14th proved to be an expensive affair for Bowood’s Win Freeman whose hole in one left him hastily checking his golf insurance to face the inevitable bar bill — the words ‘thank god for plastic’ were heard coming from that area.
