THERE was a changing of the guard at Launceston Golf Club at the beginning of the month, when seniors’ captain Derek Ratcliffe handed over the reins to Rodney Duke.

The announcement was made at the seniors’ AGM on Tuesday, December 8, where Rodney said it was a great honour to be the seniors’ captain for 2016, and thanked Derek for his contribution in his year as captain.

He added: “A lot of time and organising goes into to make the seniors such a successful section with 70 to 80 playing most Tuesdays.

“My vice captain will be Peter Jones which i am delighted to be working with. There will be 44 matches playing on the most desirable courses in Devon and Cornwall from Tehidy to Saunton to Torquay.

“Congratulations to all the trophy winners and we will continue to organise the same again next year and also varied Tuesday competitions.

“My thanks to all who are supporting me on my away trip to the Wiltshire near Royal Wotton Bassett in June — 36 players over three days.

“Lastly, my charity for my year as captain will be a very worthy charity — Help For Heroes, and the Captain’s drive in will be on January 3, 2016. Happy New Year.”
