SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE PREMIER WEST (SATURDAY)

Truro City Reserves 1 Bude Town 2

SEVENTEEN-year-old Jake Woodland grabbed an injury-time winner as Bude Town made it three victories on the spin with a 2-1 victory at Truro City Reserves on Saturday.

The Seasiders made the long trip to Helston where Truro now play their home matches having seen off Dobwalls and Wendron, but fell behind five minutes in when Harry Morton lofted the ball in from distance after Ty Rowe had dealt with a ball over the top.

Bude were quickly back in their stride. Harry Hopcroft had a couple long range efforts, while Ruan Tape found himself in some nice areas as they continued to ask questions.

They eventualy got their reward before the break as Woodland’s cross from the left was met by the head of Dylan Morgan who nodded in under the keeper.

The second half saw Truro come more into the game as Bude had to show the other side to their play.

That said, Harrison Swatton was lively in attack and Hopcroft had a long-range free-kick acrobatically saved.

Bude’s defence all had excellent games, including Mason Tape as a stand-in left-back, while further forward, midfielder Archie Perrott covered every blade of grass.

The Seasiders for their reward deep into injury-time. Hopcroft’s corner from the right was met at the far post by skipper Ewan Reeves who nodded it back for Woodland to head in and spark wild celebrations from the visitors.

Reflecting on a dramatic afternoon at Kellaway Park, Bude boss Steve Hackett told the Post: “I’m delighted for the lads to get the injury-time winner, but especially to Jake, who at just 17, has been incredible since he stepped up into first team football.

“He sets really high standards for himself – listens, learns and gives 100% every single week. It was a great moment for him.”

As for the game itself, Hackett continued: “It was a strong performance from us again, we played some really fluent football at times, created a lot of threat in the Truro box and as time was running out it seemed like one of those afternoons where we would have to settle for a point knowing that we deserved all three. Then Jake pops up at the death and nods home the winner.

“We’re now up to fifth in the table with three wins on the bounce and we are on a high.

“The lads have worked hard and are now starting to get their rewards for their effort and commitment levels.

“They are a young group who work extremely hard for each other with no egos, and we are hungry to keep the results going.

“I’d also like to give special mentions to Sam Down, Ryan Vanstone and Ryan Hodge who came on in the second half and gave us the energy to clinch the result in our favour.”

Bude visit title favourites Liskeard on Saturday (3pm).

Hackett concluded: “We move onto perhaps our toughest match of the season on Saturday, but we will go there with our tails up, to be competitive and to make life hard for them.”
