CALLINGTON made it back-to-back defeats as Cullompton Rangers left Ginsters Marshfield Parc with all three points.

Cally were looking to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat at Elburton Villa but were second best against their Devon visitors.

Rhys Palmer and Jordan Harris put Cullompton 2-0 up at half-time before Harris added a second after the break to leave Callington stuck on just four points from their eight games.

Callington were looking to bounce back on Tuesday night when they made the short trip to fellow strugglers Torpoint Athletic.

Camelford 1

Helston Athletic 1

HARRY?Hambly’s equaliser ensured that Camelford earned a point from the visit of mid-table Helston Athletic to Trefrew Park.

Phil Cattran put the Kellaway Park club in front before Hambly’s shot ended up in the back of the net.

Both teams played some decent football but in the end a draw was about right.

Launceston 0

LAUNCESTON’S tough run of SWPL fixtures continued on Saturday when local rivals and title favourites Tavistock visited Pennygillam and came away with a 5-0 victory.

The Lambs arrived fresh from their unprecedented 7-1 defeat of Bodmin Town, while the Clarets were looking to get back on track following their 3-1 defeat at the hands of a strong St Austell side four days earlier.

The pitch was in excellent condition and the game attracted a sizeable crowd on a glorious afternoon. Inside the first minute there were sustained Tavistock appeals for a penalty as former Launceston striker Liam Prynn hit the deck, but the officials were having none of it.

The Clarets settled and Mike Steele was unlucky when his firm drive beat visiting keeper Josh Oak, only to see the effort rebound from the far post. But the Lambs were breaking with fast, accurate passing and Jack Crago opened the scoring in the 17th minute, when his shot took a wicked deflection to beat Josh Colwill.

Launceston were struggling to get a foothold in the game and Josh Grant doubled the lead in the 27th minute with an emphatic finish after a fine Tavistock move.

The Clarets needed to start the second-half well if they were to get back into the game, but within three minutes the visitors had sewn up the points.

Luke Brown made it 3-0 immediately after the break, before the impressive Prynn turned in an accurate Josh Robins cross to make it four. The same man then ran clear to beat Colwill on the hour and the Clarets were looking primarily at damage limitation, against their impressive visitors.

The final 5-0 scoreline was a fair reflection of a game in which Tavistock demonstrated their title credentials.

In the space of ten days, Launceston have played the top four sides in the SWPL, winning one and losing three. They will be happy to get back into calmer waters, which started with Tuesday night’s visit of Cullompton Rangers.

They’re in action on Saturday when they entertain Cornwall Combination League side Mullion in the first-round of the RGB Cornwall Senior Cup (2pm).

Division One (West)

Penzance 1

JOE?Barker’s 75th minute penalty allowed Holsworthy to move up to fifth in the table after coming from behind to beat Penzance in the battle of the Magpies at Upcott Field.

Lewis Caspell swept the away side into the lead inside 15 minutes, but that would only last quarter of an hour as teenage wing-back?Max MacDonald let fly with a 25-yard volley which found its way in.

Harry Stevens was influential for the home side and they missed a plethora of chances as Tom Robinson, Ollie Kennelly and Stevens himself all went close while striker Scott Percy went even closer as he struck the frame of the goal.

However, the home side finally got their reward as Barker slammed home a penalty to ensure they made it 13 points from their opening seven games.

Holsworthy are back in action on Saturday when they entertain Brixham, who are currently sixth in Division One (East) of the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League, in the first-round of the Carl Throgmorton Devon Premier Cup. Kick-off at Upcott Field is at 2pm.
