Carlsberg South West Peninsula League

Premier Division

A LATE, controversial penalty from Josh Grant gave title-chasing Tavistock the three points after a stirring comeback from the home side at Ginsters Marsh.

Tavistock led through Sam Davey and Jack Crago heading into the last 20 minutes but were soon pegged back by Ricky Coton and Kevin McCallion’s equaliser on 77 minutes.

However Grant’s spot-kick gave Tavvy the sweetest of victories.

Exmouth Town 4

Launceston 0

LAUNCESTON were caught cold by title-chasing Exmouth Town, on a filthy afternoon at Southern Road.

Missing seven regulars, the Clarets needed to start well and quieten a confident home side, unbeaten in the league since Boxing Day and putting together a credible promotion bid.

Facing a strong wind and driving rain, the Clarets were soon in trouble. Goalkeeper Josh Colwill performed early heroics to keep the hosts at bay before Jordan Harris put them in front with a looping sixth minute header.

Tallan Mitchell cleared a goal-bound effort off the line, while Colwill needed lengthy treatment after a brave block to keep the deficit at just a single goal.

Gradually Launceston established a tentative foothold in the game and midway through the half Mitchell rattled the crossbar with a fierce 20-yard free-kick.

At only 1-0 down and with the wind at their backs, the Clarets approached the second-half in a positive frame of mind.

However any optimism was short-lived. Two identical goals, both unchallenged Ace High headers from corners, left the Clarets with 35 minutes to play and a mountain to climb against an impressive Exmouth outfit.

They were beaten only once more, when substitute Dan Boere rammed home a 77th minute effort, but this was an afternoon to forget for the team.

On Saturday Launceston head to Falmouth for what looks a tough quarter-final tie in the RGB Cornwall Senior Cup, but will be buoyed by their 2-1 league victory they enjoyed at Bickland Park back in September.

Millbrook 3

Camelford 0

CURTIS Damerell’s second-half hat-trick sent Camelford tumbling to an 11th straight league defeat at Jenkins Park.

The contest was played out in woeful conditions but the Camels defended resolutely until the hour when Damerell lashed in.

He then lobbed the Camelford goalkeeper for his second before adding his treble from the penalty spot.

The Camels’ next game is at Ivybridge Town next Saturday.

Division One (West)

Wadebridge Town 5

Holsworthy 3

HOLSWORTHY were just edged out by high-flying Wadebridge Town in an eight-goal classic at Bodieve Park on Saturday.

Both sides had chances in an entertaining first-half before Kyle Flew put the home side in front.

However the Magpies were level six minutes later through Dom Abbott.

Wadebridge went 3-1 up either side of the break through Flew’s second and Connor Mewton, but Holsworthy again fought back through Brad Birch.

Sam Cooper made it 4-2 before Joe Barker’s 74th minute penalty once again reduced the arrears.

However Wadebridge sealed the points four minutes later through Dan Jennings’ header as Liam Dart’s men were left to bemoan their defending ahead of this weekend’s trip to bottom side Ludgvan (3pm).
