South West Peninsula League - Premier West

St Mawgan 0 Holsworthy 3

HOLSWORTHY produced a dominant display at new boys St Mawgan on Saturday at Trevarrian Park.

Goals from Gavin Carter, Jack Japes and Josh Down helped secure the victory for the Magpies, while George Plumb was given the man of the match award.

Holsworthy manager Kevin Squire said: “It was a good day all round. I was throughly pleased with the performance and with a lot of the play in general.

“I thought we passed the ball a lot better on what was a difficult pitch, but I thought we dealt with it quite well and scored three good goals.

“Early on, I thought that we were going to be in for a rough ride as we had a few refereeing decisions go against us. I thought we should of had a penalty in the early minutes which wasn’t given, but we bounced back from that and I thought we played well throughout the game.

“Back to front we were really good, we were missing a big man at the back as Jed Peschke was away, so we had Callum Martyn, Plumb and Jeffrey Angila. All three of them stood up and defended admirably.

“I gave George man of the match as I thought he was particularly good and hopefully that gives him the confidence to push on. He started the season well and I’m pleased for him.

“In midfield, we had Ryan Chadwick come in who was outstanding, showing his class and doing a good job in the 10 role. Aaron Hart gave us great minutes and did everything I asked of him and I’m throughly pleased for him too.”
