Pickard Cup final at Holsworthy FC

Halwill Reserves 2

Fremington 1

BILLY Hopcroft’s second-half penalty gave Halwill the Pickard Cup after coming from behind to beat Fremington at Upcott Field.

The first half an hour was a bit of a non-event as both teams scrapped it out. Halwill had the majority of possession but failed to take their chances and it cost them dear as a failure to clear their lines ended with Fremington going into the break a goal to the good.

Halwill came out looking more positive in the second-half and levelled on 55 minutes as Tudor Placinta placed a shot hard and low into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

The game was level at the hour mark but soon after Halwill grabbed the decisive goal.

Star striker Billy Hopcroft, who counts Bideford and Bodmin Town amongst his former clubs, took the ball past two defenders before being taken down for a penalty. He then picked himself up to place the spot-kick into the corner of the net.

For the remainder of the contest, Halwill managed to keep the ball and played some good football to seal the title.
