BUDE Town boss Steve Hackett is targeting ‘experienced players’ as they look to kick on in SWPL Premier West.

Hackett took over the Seasiders last summer having been manager of the reserves, and despite having to assemble a completely new squad, many of whom were with him in St Piran League Division Three East, they finished 14th in the 16-team division.

Such is the desire to improve at Broadclose Park, players have been put their through paces by local personal trainer Eddie Marbell, while five pre-season games have been announced, all against North Devon-based opposition.

They start with a trip to SWPL Premier East outfit Torrington on Saturday, July 5 before welcoming Devon League outfit Fremington on July 10.

A second Thursday night encounter at home sees Ilfracombe Town visit a week later.

The Bluebirds were in the Western League Premier Division last term and should provide a stern test.

Bude are back on their travels on July 26 as they head to Torridge Cup winners Torridgeside, before they round off their preparations with a visit from Appledore on Wednesday, July 30.

Both Saturday games are set for 2pm with the evening fixtures set for a 7.30pm start.

Hackett told the Post: “We are looking to retain all of our current players and make some more signings to strengthen the squad and give us more competition for places.

“We are especially looking for a few more older, more experienced players to bolster the group.

“We’ve got five fixtures booked in to get us ready, work is underway on the playing surface and we’re looking forward to trying to push on again.”

The club have also announced a testimonial for club legend Steve Box on Saturday, July 19.

The match, which will include some of his former team-mates and the current squad, is set for a 5.30pm kick-off.
