SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE PREMIER WEST
Camelford 3 Wadebridge Town 1
THE Camels go into their crucial upcoming fixtures with Penzance and Callington Town right in the mix for a top-three finish following a comfortable Good Friday victory over neighbours Wadebridge Town at Trefrew Park.
The mid-table Bridgers made the short trip up the A39 determined to avenge defeats in both the league and Cornwall Senior Cup, but conceded a penalty inside 15 minutes following a reckless foul on top-scorer Ryan Downing, a challenge the hosts thought should have been a red card.
However, veteran keeper Steve Raven did superbly to save the spot-kick.
The first half, although dominated by the hosts in terms of possession, barely saw Raven called into action as the visitors stood strong.
But they conceded within 10 minutes of the restart as Downing’s corner was headed in by former Bridger Tom Crowe.
Throughout the second half, Raven was in inspired form as Camelford dominated bar a short spell which saw a couple of good saves from home keeper Cory Harvey.
The second arrived with 20 or so to play as winger Liam Higgins went down the left before cutting inside and finding the bottom far corner.
The visitors then had their spell and pulled one back with four minutes through the in-form Kyle Flew after a ball forward wasn’t dealt with properly, but the game was put to bed with 10 or so to play when Kenley Dyson sent Downing clear and he rolled the ball past Raven.
