Cornwall Junior Cup (third-round) — round-up

DUCHY League two high-flyers Bude Town Reserves moved into the last 16 of the Bond Timber Cornwall Junior Cup after a stunning comeback against Trelawney outfit Stithians on the 3G pitch at Falmouth School.

Home side Stithians, having only lost once this season in the Trelawny Premiership, took an early lead as a whipped in corner got caught in the strong wind and flew straight into the far top corner.

In the blink of an eye the higher-ranked home side were 3-0 up capitalising on two Bude errors to race to a commanding lead after 20 minutes.

However Bude were playing well despite their errors and hit back through some slick interplay which saw first Steve Hackett and then Lucas Ribeiro Nunes produce tidy finishes to see Bude go in at half-time just 3-2 down.

With the wind at their backs Bude produced an outstanding second-half display of passing and work-rate, finally getting their rewards with 20 minutes left when Ryan Leverton picked up the ball 35 yards out and drilled in the equaliser off the underside of the bar.

Bude, who were defending an unbeaten run in Saturday football that stretches back nearly a year, were now full of confidence and the floodgates duly opened.

Hackett bent one straight in from a corner and Brad Palmer notched a quick-fire brace before midfield dynamo Adam Wosnitzka capped off a terrific performance with a 20-yard piledriver.

Duchy Premier side St Breward are also in the fourth-round after a 3-0 victory over Trelawny Premiership outfit Probus at Brake Parc.

Scott Burke and Martin Jago (2) were on target for the Moorlanders.

They will be joined in the last 16 by Duchy Premier leaders Gunnislake who were 1-0 winners over a resolute St Columb Major. Carlton Farnham grabbed the all important winner to keep their hopes of a league and cup double very much alive.

However it was the end of the road in this year’s competition for Tintagel as they lost 4-1 at home to fellow Duchy Premier side St Newlyn East at Butts Field.

Altarnun’s clash with Mevagissey was postponed yet again and will be played this Saturday, this time at Altarnun.
