North Devon Football League latest round-up

POST area clubs across all three divisions have been busy in the last fortnight as they look to push on in the crucial part of the season.

Morwenstow and Holsworthy both had the day off on Saturday in the Premier Division, but both took huge steps towards survival in their most recent outings.

On March 21, Morwenstow won 3-2 at high-flying Morwenstow Reserves in remarkable circumstances.

Trailing 2-0 early in the second half, Michael Dolan got them back in the contest before Ritchie Armstrong and key man Jake Gilbert completed the turnaround.

They remain third bottom due to Holsworthy’s 1-0 success over ninth-placed Hartland last Wednesday night, a fine turnaround from their 6-2 thrashing at home to Combe Martin four days earlier where they scored through Harry Grigg’s brace. Grigg was the hero on Wednesday as they moved a point clear of Morwenstow.

In the Senior Division, Bradworthy require a maximum of 11 points to secure the title after a 3-0 derby success at Shebbear United on Saturday.

The Horniwinks, who are also through to the Combe Martin League Cup final following a penalty shoot-out success over South Molton the week before, took the lead when Adam Griffin grabbed his first of the season.

Tai Wonnacott doubled the advantage early in the second half with a fine volley, and it was 3-0 when man-of-the-match Lee Clarke’s 25-yard effort found the top corner.

Bradworthy then shocked Landkey Town from the Premier Division on Sunday in the Pickard Cup semi-final as Tudor Placinta’s hat-trick gave them a 3-1 success.

In Intermediate One, Tom Gleeson’s brace helped Putford to a 4-3 success over Braunton Thirds, Holsworthy Thirds edged past bottom side Northam Lions 2-1 and Morwenstow Reserves drew 2-2 at home to their Hartland counterparts with Leo Mason and Jack Gear the Greens’ scorers.
