Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Division Four and Five East round-up – Saturday, August 2
SKIPPER IAN Worsnip took 6-4 as Werrington Thirds recorded an emphatic 172-run victory over Liskeard at Ladycross.
The villagers were in bother at 36-3 but were rescued by a fine stand of 164 between run-machine Paul Miller and Lee Houghton, the latter eventually going for 72.
Miller continued until the end, finishing 91 not out as they posted 232-6.
Worsnip came on as first change and after Liskeard reached 30-0, lost all 10 wickets with Worsnip bowling just four overs.
In Division Five East, St Minver Seconds are 31 points behind third bottom Pencarrow after their 189-run defeat at home to promotion-chasing Wadebridge Thirds.
Unbeaten centuries from Lucas Stewart (106) and Leigh Charles (101) saw the Swans rack up 277-3 from their 40 overs with only Jim Hall (2-45) getting much reward.
Opener Sam Hocking smacked 43 from 37 balls, but the hosts were 89 all out which included 5-18 for Arthur Skinner.
Holsworthy Seconds were thrashed by 209 runs at Pencarrow.
Isaac Jago’s unbeaten 101 was the bedrock of their 269-2, before the Trees were shot out in just 15 overs for 60, the best being nine from Gavin Cockwill.
Launceston Thirds were also comfortably beaten by 127 runs at fellow mid-table side Gunnislake.
Gunni were boosted by the returns of key men James Boundy and Russ Holloway, the latter making an unbeaten 71 in their hefty 257-5.
Opener Dan Pethick made a quickfire 48 at the top of the order, while skipper Dinesh Thirupuvanarajah’s 45 got them above and beyond 250.
For Launceston, only Indy Worth (1-23) went at less than four an over.
The visitors’ chase never really got started as bar twenties from Will Mansfield (24) and Glyn Hutchings (27), wickets fell at regular intervals, including 4-29 from man-of-the-match Holloway.
