Wadebridge v Werrington

WERRINGTON lost their final seven wickets for just 15 runs to lose at third-placed Wadebridge on Saturday.

The visitors dominated much of the game, but a failure to dismiss Australian Lachlan Crump cost them dear as he made 106 in their 196 all out, before the all-rounder’s triple-wicket maiden derailed the chase.

From 124-3, four wickets fell for no run as Crump’s 3-6 from just 2.5 overs was added to by left-arm spinner Matt Lawrence’s 4-29.

After choosing to field in overcast conditions, Werrington couldn’t have asked for a better start.

The miserly Dan Barnard bowled Charlie McLachlan for three, however it was opening partner Sam Hockin (3-23) that produced a devastating three-wicket burst.

He first had Matt Rowe caught by Ben Smeeth for nought, trapped former Werrington favourite Matt Robins lbw for eight and then bowled James Turpin first ball.

Callum Wilson briefly halted the slide before being bowled aiming a sweep off Adam Hodgson (2-44), and the off-spinner struck three balls later when New Zealander Ryan Jackson edged to Paul Smith at slip.

Wadebridge then showed the depth of their side as skipper Kelvin Snell dug in alongside Crump.

While Snell made 42 from 66 balls before being caught off the returning Barnard (4-24), Crump gradually upped the ante in his 136-ball knock which contained four fours and as many sixes.

Barnard (4-24) wrapped up the tail quickly before Werrington, although losing wickets, got themselves into a fine position at 124-3 with Smith (35) and Thulina Dilshan (22) set.

However, Crump dismissed Smith, Ben Smeeth and Nick Lawson in his first over, before Dilshan edged Lawrence behind in the next.

Lawrence soon went through Barnard and Mark Taskis, and when Hockin was caught off Jackson, the game was up.
