Cornwall Cricket League Division Four and Five East round-up – Saturday, July 26
WERRINGTON Thirds’ promotion hopes from Division Four are now in their own hands after thrashing mid-table Tideford by 130 runs at Ladycross.
The home side racked up a hefty 272-8 after winning the toss with opener Nick Ward making 92.
He shared a 147-run stand for the fourth wicket with Lee Houghton who made 72 from just 76 balls, while Nick Oldaker added 24 not out at the end.
The visitors lost wickets throughout their innings with Freddie Ward (3-24), Ian Worsnip (2-15) and Tom petherick (2-29) sharing seven wickets.
In Division Five, Launceston Seconds moved up to fifth with a four-wicket success at strugglers Grampound Road Thirds.
Peter West took 4-41 from his 10 overs as the hosts were dismissed for 177, while Tommy Davey (2-15) provided fine support.
The chase was dominated by Glyn Hutchings’ 53 and with 59 extras being sent down by the hosts, victory was achieved with 10 overs to spare.
Holsworthy Seconds made the long trip down to leaders Gorran and were comfortably beaten by 118 runs.
Ryan Seymour-Smith (1-37) and Dave Snowdon (2-12) were the only bowlers to go at less than four an over as the villagers made 248-6.
The Trees were dismissed within 28 overs with only Liam Brend (28) and Danny Tape (25) getting past 20.
St Minver Seconds remain in trouble after being dismissed for just 73 at fellow strugglers Pencarrow.
Simon Clay took 5-11 for the hosts with only Charlie Edwards (17), Jake Keast (11) and Steve Hawke (10) reaching double figures.
Isaac Jago (26no) and Jack Carter (19) guided the hosts to victory after Mark Pennington went for 15 to Sam Hocking.
The result leaves St Minver 14 points adrift of third bottom Pencarrow who are a point ahead of Grampound Road.
