BOND TIMBER CORNWALL CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION TWO EAST
St Blazey v Holsworthy
HOLSWORTHY were unable to build on their first win of the season as they were comfortably beaten by four wickets at champions St Blazey.
Blazey captain Rory Dixon chose to field and opened with two off-spinners in himself and Nithin Gowda, and both bowlers give little away as Gowda struck first by having key man Jack Greening was caught for just five.
Sam Stacey was shifted up the order and he got three boundaries away off Gowda before falling for 22.
From there on, Holsworthy lost wickets at regular intervals as Walter went for a single to Gowda, and Aiden Gerry was caught behind off Dixon for a second ball nought.
The recalled Ben Hutchings hung around for six and South African Bilal Darbar made the same score before Guy Beagley (5) was caught and bowled by Andrew Thomas to leave the innings in dire straits at 71-7.
Number three Brendan Harris stood strong and found a useful ally in Nick Ward as they batted through the majority of the final 10 overs to give themselves a sniff.
Harris was eventually bowled by seamer Angus Harley for 35 from 65 deliveries, while Ward ended 13 not out off 25.
Blazey found the going tough early on, particularly against Graham Wild (0-11 off 6).
Darbar got rid of Josh Carne with 20 on the board, but a 38-run stand between Dixon and South African Henro Bouwer (22) gave Blazey a platform despite fine six-over spells from spinners Graham Wild (0-11) and Aiden Gerry (1-18), the latter who had Dixon lbw for 23.
Jack Greening dismissed Bouwer with 60 on the board, but despite Dan Lucas taking 2-20 and Greening 2-17, the hosts got over the line with four wickets and 19 balls to spare.
