Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Division Three East round-up – Saturday, July 26

TINTAGEL maintained their own promotion hopes and put a huge dent in Launceston’s survival bid with an emphatic 107-run success at Lawhitton.

After Shane Davey (2-29) struck twice early on, the villagers responded well as important contributions from Glen Burrell (29), Ryan Pooley (36), Jordan Burnard (26), Sam Abbott (29) and man-of-the-match Jack Minehan (33no) coupled with 54 extras helped them reach 224-8. Left-arm spinner Ethan Green was the pick of the bowlers with 2-20 from his nine.

The home side would have fancied their chances at tea, but by the time Minehan had finished his spell it was all but game over.

The Australian paceman took 5-25 from his nine overs as of the top seven, only Matt Bloomfield (17) made double figures.

There was some resistance from James Dawe (13) and Josh Murray Dustan (29), but Pooley (2-32) finished the game by having the latter caught with the hosts three runs short of a third batting point.

Tintagel are fourth, 14 points behind second-placed Saltash, but with all of the top three to play in the final five games, their chances of an immediate return to Division Two are right in their hands, starting with Saturday’s trip to relegation-threatened Callington Thirds.

Callington did bolster their own survival hopes with a four-wicket success at Ladock.

Leg-spinner Harvey Poad took 5-22 as they restricted the hosts to 206 all out, before Tom Neville’s 80 set the platform to allow James Moon (22no), Charlie Coates (33) and Mohamed Durrani-Zubair (17no) to finish it off.

An understrength South Petherwin were well-beaten at table-toppers Menheniot-Looe.

Only Andrew Brenton (32) and Adrian Clements (45) made much impression in their 133 all out, and although Clements took 3-32 to reduce the hosts to 54-3, that was as good as it got.
