BOND TIMBER CORNWALL CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION TWO EAST

Tintagel v Menheniot-Looe

GYLES Reynolds and Jack Minehan produced a superb comeback as Tintagel moved up to third in the table with a three-wicket success over fellow promoted side Menheniot-Looe at Butts Field.

After choosing to field, the Knights struggled for early inroads as although off-spinner Ryan Pooley eventually bowled Reuben Crawford 13, half-centuries from Peter Nance and Australian Lachie Embleton provided a fine base.

Nance was caught behind off Aussie seamer Jack Minehan for 50 with 99 on the board, but stand-in skipper Alex Caddy joined Embleton to add a further 63.

But once they were separated by man-of-the-match Reynolds and Embleton departed off fellow countryman Leo Agacy for 65 (185-5), the Tintagel fought back as Agacy took 4-55.

Twenty from Ross Ripley and a hard-hit 17 from Mike Maiden got Menheniot-Looe up to 229-8 as all of the five-man home attack did a steady job.

Tintagel lost Matt Jolliffe for a single, but the attacking Agacy struck 10 fours and a six in partnership with Jordan Burnard (32) before being caught off Sam Jordan for 51.

Dangerman Ryan Pooley smacked 22 from just 15 balls which ended when the canny Mike Maiden had him caught on the boundary.

At 145-3 Tintagel were in the box seat, but Maiden (4-31) and fellow veteran Brian Caddy (1-22) turned the screw, taking four quick wickets for just 19 to leave the home side with a mountain to climb.

But the excellent Minehan and Reynolds had other ideas in an unbroken 70 partnership in just nine overs.

Eight were required off the last, but after Reynolds struck a six and a single, Minehan (33no off 31) got Sam Jordan’s no-ball to the boundary to the delight of the vocal home support.

Tintagel head to Holsworthy on Saturday (1pm).
