HOLSWORTHY Seconds were one of three teams to take 10 points home from their opening day fixture in Division Five East on Saturday having raced to 81-2 at Pencarrow in less than 15 overs when rain swept in across the county.

The Trees saw Ben Hutchings reach 41 not out from as many balls, while opener Liam Brend made 19.

Both home side Gunnislake and Menheniot-Looe Seconds got off to promising starts with the visitors reaching 94-4 from 18 overs with all four home bowlers in the wickets.

Young left-armer Ryan Vanstone struck twice early and chairman Peter West did likewise as Launceston Seconds had Newquay Thirds at 39-3 after 11 overs.

Promoted Luckett Seconds kept things tight against their relegated Lanhydrock counterparts as Gareth Clements sent down the superb figures of 1-1 from his five overs in the Bodmin side’s 51-1.

Bude Seconds racked up maximum batting points in their 200-0 from just 22 overs at Crooklets against Grampound Road Thirds who arrived with just eight players.

Chairman Michael Taylor was 93 not out from just 79 balls with Jack Miles unbeaten on 65 from 60 deliveries.

Promoted Tintagel Seconds had their Saltash counterparts 71-2 from 20 overs with wickets for Freddie Knowles and Josh Fry, while just seven overs were possible as South Petherwin Seconds hosted St Minver Seconds, the visitors 31-1 after seven.

Twenty-six overs were possible at Werrington as their fourths reached 92-3 against St Neot Seconds. Openers Ian Wills (33) and Will Conway (30) both made starts.

Division Seven’s action saw cricket return to Stoke Climsland for the first time in nearly 30 years as Luckett’s new third team hosted their Menheniot-Looe counterparts. A very young home side reached 57-8 in the 19th over.

Launceston Thirds had a tough start as Lanhydrock amassed 101-1 from 19 overs.
