BUDE Seconds are 25 points off second with five to play following a six-wicket victory over visiting Werrington Fourths.
Dan Petit’s miserly spell of 0-14 from 10 overs kept the visitors in check, and although Adam Paynter made an unbeaten 87, they could only muster 162-5.
Opener Nigel Dennis made 31 before becoming one of four wickets to Mike Taylor (4-44).
Bude eased to victory as after Michael Taylor (17) and Martin Bell (36) added 49, Ryan Chalkley (45), Mike Ellis (29no) and Derek Piper (16no) did the rest despite two wickets for youngster Theo Wills (2-25).
Third-placed Luckett Seconds saw their hopes take a blow as they were beaten by 75 runs at Saltash Seconds.
The hosts made 222-4 from their 40 overs despite 3-33 from Paul Ingerson, Luckett were dismissed for 147 despite skipper Richard Seeley’s 43.
Elsewhere, Richard Watson made an unbeaten 90 as South Petherwin Seconds eased past their Ladock counterparts by eight wickets.
The visitors amassed 190-5 with none of the Petherwin bowlers taking more than a wicket, although James Cawsey (1-26 off 10) gave away little.
Cawsey (26) and fellow opener Nick Gerry (32) both got starts before Watson was joined by Trevor Dingle (26no) to get the job done.
In Division Seven East, Tintagel Seconds beat their Lanhydrock counterparts by eight wickets at Butts Field.
David Lane (3-8) and Freddie Knowles (4-23) shared seven wickets before Neil Hann (20), Simon Harrison (20) and Martin Seldon (23no) knocked it off.
Launceston Thirds got their first win of the season with an eight-wicket success at Tideford Seconds.
The ten-player hosts were all out for 67 as opening bowlers Kieren Welch (3-19) and Andrew Townsend (4-11) ran riot. Openers Andrew Baker (28no) and Edward Mansfield (19) knocked off most of the target.
