FRESH from their success last year, 2019 sees the turn of the Week St Mary Bonaventures Women’s Institute (WI) to host the WI marquee at the Holsworthy & Stratton Show.
In anticipation of the event, the Bonaventures brought together local WIs in February to make arrangements for this year’s exhibition, theme and rules. They are now excited to announce that five WIs from Devon and Cornwall will be participating; Bude, Holsworthy Rubies, Jacobstow, Marhamchurch and Week St Mary Bonaventures.
The theme chosen for the displays this year is ‘A musical’.
A cup will be awarded by the three three judges for ‘best display’. Then each display will be judged in three sections to include:
• Cookery — a trio of desserts, savoury pie, chutney and a non-alcoholic cocktail.
• Craft — a poster, shawl/wrap, evening bag and a character from the show.
• Miscellaneous — a fan, candle, floral exhibit or a recycled material jewellery item.
Awards are as follows: A Silver Rose Bowl, for the best display; The Challenge Trophy, for the individual exhibit item gaining the highest mark out of 20; The Penhale Cup, awarded to the WI group gaining the overall highest total marks; The People’s Choice Trophy, a new award this year for the overall display, voted for by members of the public.
Official judging commences at 8.30am. Trophies will be presented towards the end of the day.
WI members will be at hand throughout to talk about why belonging to the WI means so much to them — sharing information on upcoming events and encouraging others to join this lively and fun organisation.
The members of Week St Mary Bonaventures WI look forward to meeting everyone at the show.
