LIFE saving coastguard crews from HM Coastguard Padstow provided assistance with a number of other emergency services after reports of several casualties being in difficulty in the water at Mawgan Porth beach.
The coastguards worked alongside Newquay coastguard’s search and rescue team, the Newquay RNLI lifeboats, paramedics from South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWAST), the critical care team from Cornwall Air Ambulance and a coastguard rescue helicopter after the emergency call was received.
All casualties were successfully rescued back to shore, with the ambulance services provided necessary treatments while a search was carried out to ensure that all persons involved were safely back on shore.
The coastguards said that they were thankful for the members of the Mawgan Porth surf life saving club and the public for their swift actions and assistance on the night.
They have also issued a plea to ensure to the public to ensure that they always swim at a lifeguarded beach, which is covered between 10am and 6pm during the summer months.
