FOLLOWING on from the Post’s coverage of the Holsworthy & Stratton Agricultural Show last week, councillors and representatives of Holsworthy Town Council had their own stand for the first time at this year’s show.
They said they had a ‘fantastic time’ and were glad the weather was kind.
During the day councillors and council representatives spent time talking to the public about various projects the council is involved with.
Deputy mayor Colin Punter, town clerk Vanessa Saunders, assistant to the town clerk Kerry Punter, Cllr Joanne Heaven, Cllr Jennifer Briggs, and town council handyman/gardener George Wilcox were all on hand to talk to visitors about Holsworthy, what it is like to be a councillor and how to become a town councillor — as well as handing out doughnuts to the lucky few visitors who got there first.
They also provided more information about the weekly pannier market, the rental of the Market Hall, and the town’s ‘Christmas Lights Switch On Event’ on Friday, December 1, 2017, where there will be reindeers and the return of the Children’s Hospice South West ‘Santa Run’.
The town council also had a display with more information, plans and photographs of the progress of the new Stanhope Park Pavilion Project build — a project being led by the town council to provide a base for the youth football club, the cricket club and any other local groups within the community under the newly formed Holsworthy Area Sports Pavilion (HASP) group.
The four main funders of this project are the town council, Sport England, the ECB and the Football Foundation through the Devon FA.
During their first outing to the show the town council also took the opportunity to talk with visitors about the importance of the funds raised from other local funders like businesses and individuals, how important the pavilion project is for Holsworthy and how there is still a shortfall which needs to be met before the pavilion can be completed in January 2018.
