THE project team behind plans for a new Tesco supermarket have confirmed more detail behind its plans.

It has been confirmed that the supermarket will be approximately 66 per cent of the size of the large store in Wadebridge and accessed from a ‘newly formed priority junction’ onto the A39.

They added confirmation that they anticipate the equivalent of 100 jobs being created if the planning application is granted approval.

A spokesperson for Tesco’s Camelford project team said: “We wanted to let you know that following months of design work and discussions with Cornwall Council we have finalised our proposals and have now submitted a planning application.

“We are proposing a new supermarket with Click and Collect facilities, a petrol filling station, large car park and landscaping.

“For context, this store would be approximately two-thirds the size of the Tesco supermarket in Wadebridge. The proposed supermarket is a similar size to the previously approved store planned for the site in 2013.

“The store would be accessed via a newly formed priority junction onto the A39. A new edge of town centre supermarket would benefit the town and its residents, providing more choice, reducing journeys on the road and creating around 100 new jobs in the town.

“Cornwall Council will carry out its own statutory consultation on the community’s opinions of the plans, ahead of considering the planning application.

“All the application documents can be viewed on the Council’s online planning register, using the reference number PA25/02932. You can also let them know your view, and the more people registering their support for the plans will make it more likely the supermarket will go ahead.
