AFTER two years, Whitstone Carnival was back this weekend and it was better than ever.

The sun shone as competitions, discos and food were all around at this year’s carnival. After a two year break due to the pandemic, the event was back in action as the village became a hub of activity with entertainment for all to enjoy.

Visitors were invited to enter a plethora of competitions, including the ‘Flower and Produce Show’, ‘Fancy Dress’ and the ‘Group Tableaux’, and with trophies to be won there was plenty of stiff competition.

Whitstone’s very own Red Barrows took first prize in the adult Tableaux while The Big Breakfast fried their competition to become the beans knees in the mixed age category.

For those elsewhere, children were invited to the village’s very own disco inferno hosted by the committee, complete with mocktails, tuck shop, glow sticks and tattoos to give the full experience.

Attendees also enjoyed a car treasure hunt, as participants channelled their inner Sherlock Holmes to tackle some perplexing clues and lead them to victory. Despite tough competition, the Martyn family finished top of the class with full points.

A carnival is not complete without a parade however, group walkers, and floats marched through the village led by Launceston Town Band.

To wrap up celebrations, attendees gathered at the village hall for a barbecue, bouncy castle and bar. Money raised at the event will be distributed to local organisations throughout 2023.
