YOUNG people in Launceston have been learning all about some of the lifesaving roles which support the armed forces.
Pupils at Lifton Community Academy were thrilled recently after they received a visit from an army medic.
Liam Yeo spoke to the nursery and reception children about his role and how he helps people, giving them a fascinating insight into life in the armed forces and emergency care.
During the visit, pupils also got the chance to explore some of the equipment that Liam uses as part of his job and asked questions about what the role entails.
The school has said that visits like Liam’s allow students to see their lessons come to life, showing them how the things they learn in the classroom can be connected into the world around them.
A spokesperson for the school said: “The school’s youngest children take part in a wide range of activities to build key skills such as speaking, listening, concentration, and teamwork.
“Through play, creative projects, and practical learning both indoors and outdoors, they develop early reading, communication, and maths skills while exploring ideas and expressing themselves.”
Staff have praised the pupils for their curiosity and enthusiasm, and thanked Liam for sharing his time and experiences with the school.
Adam Hill, headteacher at Lifton Community Academy, said: “The children were fascinated by the visit from the army medic. It’s a wonderful opportunity for them to see real-life roles in action, ask questions, and learn about helping others. We’re very grateful to Liam for taking the time to share his experiences.”
Tracey Cleverly, CEO of Learning Academy Partnership, added: “Visits like this give children valuable insight into different careers and roles. They help young people explore their interests, develop confidence, and see the impact they can have in the world around them.”
