A PUBLIC meeting of controversy and objection against individual proposals for five wind turbines in the Shebbear parish, took place recently.

Plans for five singular wind turbines within the parish have been revealed.

Shebbear College, in conjunction with developer CMS, hope to erect a turbine of 46 metres (measuring from blade to tip). This would be within close proximity to the centre of Shebbear. A 67 metre wind turbine has been proposed at Battledown Cross (on the border of Shebbear and Buckland Filleigh) reportedly in association with Murex.

A third, 79 metre turbine is in the pipeline for Durpley Farm (on the periphery of Newton St Petrock and Stibb Cross) and two wind turbines measuring 100 metres, both at Alscott Farm in conjunction with developer Infinergy.

Each of the unitary applications are at a screening stage and have not yet been submitted to Torridge District Council's plans committee.

It was these proposals that sparked the initiative to form the Shebbear Parish Protection Group and a public meeting regarding the proposals was held on Thursday, September 29, organised by the group.
