THE Rotary Club of Hatherleigh was pleased to pick up the baton this year and organise the Ruby Run for the first time, which was held on Sunday, June 9.

This was the 16th run of the series and the first event since 2017. As novice organisers, Hatherleigh Rotary Club were fortunate to have much help and support from the previous organisers — both before and during — for which the club was very grateful.

A spokesperson for the Rotary Club said: “We were blessed with good weather overall, with just one isolated shower — possibly helpful to the runners in particular.”

On the day there were 165 individual runners and six teams for the relay. There were more than 20 walkers as well.

The overall male winner of the half marathon was Paul Piper, with Stephen Skinner the overall runner up. The overall female winner was Katie Littlejohns and runner up was Helen Stevenson. The spokesperson said: “Congratulations to all winners and thanks to all the competitors.

“Our sincere thanks to all our sponsors, especially to Made Well CIC; and thank you to all volunteer helpers, including cadets from Okehampton. We hope that everyone enjoyed the day.”
