FOLLOWING the recent repairs made to the road surface on Chapel Street in Holsworthy, concerns have been raised by residents after a utilities company dug up a section of the newly finished road surface.

Residents expressed their worries on the Facebook page ‘Holsworthy Moan and Groan’ as to why this work was not carried out before the new road surface was laid.

The work was being undertaken by South West Water. They explained the reason the work needed to be carried out between August 31 and September 4, was to investigate a loss of water pressure in the area.

They have assured the public that the road will be reinstated to the condition it was before the work began.

In response a spokesperson for South West Water said: “The reason for the work being carried out was for installation of a pipe and unit that houses a stop tap and meter for a customer’s supply.

“The trench went across the footpath and across the road to reach the main in the middle of the road.

“The reinstatement will occur on Monday in the road, the footpath has been completed. Highway surfaces are always replaced like for like after carrying out work.”
